Whether you’re new to this or just need a refresher, we’re here to walk you through the fantastic eight slicer options. Get ready to slice and dice your way to insights!  lets Explore slicers in Power bi.🍕📊

1. Vertical List Slicer: The Easy Scroll

• Lets add slicer to Canvas-
• Click on Slicer Visual from the Visualization list.
• one blank Slicer visual will appear on Canvas.
• Then keep blank slicer selected and then click on the column from the Dataset which you want to add as a Slicer.
• By Default it will generate a List view.

 

Think of this as a scrolling menu for your data. All options are neatly listed, and you can scroll through them with ease.When to use: For lengthy data lists, the vertical list slicer shines. It’s like a virtual scrollable menu for your data selections.

How to use:

1. Opt for the vertical list slicer icon.
2. Effortlessly scroll through the list and choose the options you require.

Single Selection option:
If you notice the default list view, it allows multiple selections, and users can choose multiple options (using ctrl+click). However, if the user’s requirement is to make that slicer a single select, you can navigate to the format section. Under slicer settings, go to the selection option and choose “single select.” and you can see the difference.

2 . Tile Slicer: Adding Visual Flair

Imagine your data as tiles on a mosaic. The tile slicer lets you arrange data options like a beautiful mosaic, making it easy to choose the slice you want. Just click on it.

You can change from list view to Tile by changing the Dropdown option
Format ->  Slicer setting  -> options > Tile
As Shown in the Screenshot below you can choose the option as “Tile” and arrange it properly.

When to use: Picture your data options as tiles in a gallery. The tile slicer is your curator, arranging options for streamlined selection.
You can follow the same steps to make it Single select.

3. Between Slicer: Focusing on Ranges

Like setting boundaries? This slicer lets you choose a start and end point, perfect for analyzing data within specific ranges.

• When to use: Seeking insights within a specific range? The between slicer is your precision tool, setting boundaries for your data analysis.

Most people dont know that this slicer does not work with Text Data type.

In the Real time, Between slicer mostly use for Date column.

Note – To enable Between and other 8 slicer option, Column must have Data type of “Date & Time”. It will not work with Date type of Column.

4. Before Slicer: Picking a Starting Point

Ever wanted to see data before a certain date? The before slicer is your time machine, showing data leading up to your chosen date.

• When to use: Unveil data leading up to a particular date with the before slicer. It’s like peering into the past of your data story.

In this case just select “Before” option y following above steps

5. After Slicer: Zooming Ahead

Similar to the before slicer, the after slicer lets you focus on data after a chosen date. It’s like peering into the future of your data!

• When to use: Just like the before slicer, but for the future. It’s akin to a data crystal ball revealing insights yet to come.

  

6. Dropdown Slicer: Elegant Choices

This is like a dropdown menu for your data. Click it, and options unfold elegantly. Choose one, and your data aligns with your choice.

• When to use: For a refined approach to data selection, the dropdown slicer is your virtual maître d’, presenting options with finesse. This slicer is mostly used in real time project. But not with Date Column . It will be used for column like Category Product.
  

7. Relative Date Slicer: Riding the Time Wave

Want your data to reflect relative time periods? This slicer offers dynamic options like “Last 7 days” or “This month.”When to use: To showcase data in dynamic time frames like “Last 7 days” or “This month,” the relative date slicer is your dynamic companion.
here we have option to see the data for 3 ways. Here you have 2 dropdown and 1 input box to make your selection.

• • Past Time period – Last 1 Month, or last 3 year
  • Next Time Period- If you have forecast date , in that case you can see the data for like Next 8 Months, next 4 days etc
  • This Time period- This option will slice the data for the current Month , Year, Week as per your selection.
    you can choose the dropdown as per your requirement.
    

8. Relative Time Slicer: Timing Matters

Similar to the relative date slicer, but for time instead. It’s like saying, “Show me data from the last 4 hours.”

• When to use: Similar to the relative date slicer, but tailored to time intervals. It’s like asking for data “from the last 5 min.
